Minutes of the 25 April 2006 Community Meeting
Corinne Attwood (Acting Chair) opened the meeting, acting as Chair for the first three items.
1. Apologies for absence

2. Adoption of Steering Committee Report
Annual report, summarised by Corinne Attwood, accepted by the meeting.
3. Adoption of Treasurer’s Report
Income and expenditure for the last financial year (to end December 2005) was outlined by Adam Jones, Acting Treasurer. Report accepted by meeting.
4. Election of Officers for the coming year
The meeting first approved uncontested nominations for officers:
The procedures agreed in the Steering Committee meeting of 18th April were put in place and new Vice-Chair, Ann Smith, took over as Chair of the meeting. The Vice Chair invited Councillor Roy Pennington to oversee the election of Chair. Nominee Proposed Seconded Tony Davenport Paul Vitalis Timothy Davies Adam Jones Peter Freeman Philippa Sankey
Each candidate spoke for two minutes followed by the casting of votes. Members were checked against the membership list or proof of residence, voted on a numbered ballot slip which was put in a ballot box. The count was then conducted in private by two nominees chosen by the candidates, supervised by Councillor Pennington in the presence of the candidates. Of 59 voting, there was 1 spoilt paper, 17 votes in favour of Tony Davenport, 41 in favour of Adam Jones who was duly elected Chair.
5. Election of Management Committee
During the count the other uncontested positions were presented to the meeting and approved: Nominee Proposed Seconded Roz Charters Elizabeth Stewart Graham Towers Aidan Lunn Ann Smith Maud Jinks John Riddington Philippa Sankey Corinne Attwood Graham Towers Philippa Sankey Corinne Attwood Nick von Tunzelmann Tony Davenport Timothy Davies Paul Vitalis Eileen Jewell Timothy Davies It was agreed by the meeting that the unsuccessful candidate for Chair should be a member of the Management Committee.
6. Approval of Street Representatives
Corinne Attwood read the list of street representatives to the meeting and thanked them for their work. The list was approved.
7. Any Other Business
Community Police officer, Sgt Laurence Cartwright, reported back to the meeting on his contact with the Council over the open gates in St Nicholas’ churchyard, West side. The Council might consider paying for gates to be locked but need evidence of unacceptable activity in the gardens. Reports of incidents should be passed to Pat Foster, Director of Environmental Services. The Secretaries offered to collate reports from residents and pass them on under the aegis of the Alliance backed by a CMPCA letter. A request for members to join the Church watching team at St Michael’s to enable the church to be open on a Saturday was relayed to the meeting. Volunteers should contact Penny King 07738 158524. 8. Guest Speaker The new Chair, Adam Jones, introduced Jane McMorrow, Festival Producer, who talked about her work ‘Behind the scenes at the Brighton Festival’
After questions from the floor, the meeting closed at 9 pm.
